Tips for Flying with a Toddler

without comments

One of the more stressful situations for parents is taking their child on an airplane. While most children are perfectly fine in the air, many parents fear that their child will either be very scared, cranky or irritate passengers. Here are some tips on flying with your toddler.

Most parents always assume the worst. The fact is that most toddlers and young children are perfectly fine on airplanes and usually sleep or are occupied the entire flight. While everyone has heard horror stories of scared or annoying children, these tales are usually blown out of proportion.
When traveling with small children, be sure to arrive extra early at the airport, as rushing to catch a flight is even more difficult with a toddler in tow.
For added peace of mind, consider having your child wear an ID bracelet with his or her name, your name, your travel destination, plus home address & phone #.
One of the best suggestions when flying with a toddler is to bring along activities or a portable DVD player along to keep the child occupied. Most children don’t mind flying in the air and if they have their favorite toys or a video to watch they are perfectly content. If your child has previously shown to be uncomfortable in the air or very cranky, talk to your doctor about giving your child a Dramamine pill. Dramamine is an over the counter remedy for flight sickness and usually has the advantage of gently making the sufferer sleepy. So the next time you fly with your toddler, don’t fret, be prepared.
