Surveillance Cameras
Surveillance cameras work by transmitting images or video from a distance to either a human observer or video recording device. The transmission method may be either wired Closed-circuit television (CCTV) or wireless.
Modern home servalence cameras can be extremely small compared to earlier models. The miniature cameras can transmit in color and are usually powered by a small 9V battery or power adaptor. Inexpensive wireless cameras can be bought for under $100 and have a transmitting range of several hundred feet and up. For several hundred dollars you can even buy a system which transmits video and audio, has a motion detector, and operates on solar power!
Another home security option is to send your video feed to a remote location on the internet. Some models connect directly to your wireless network and don’t require a PC to be in use! You can be on vacation in another part of the world and view what’s happening at home.
For those on a tight budget, the cheapest option for home security is to simply buy a dummy camera or two and install them in obvious locations at your home to act as a deterrent.
