Domain Kiting Service
Anyone who has ever bought a domain name knows that it will usually cost anywhere from about $7 to over $20 (depending on the registrar), to register the name for the minimum period of 1 year.
Domain kiting, (also known as domain tasting) is a controversial method by which the registrars can temporarily register the name/s and measure the traffic to determine if the domain is worth keeping. This traffic can come from misspelled type-ins, old links from other sites, and other sources.
In April 2006, out of 35 million registrations, only a little more than 2 million were permanent or actually purchased. (wikipedia)
Now the domain service company Pool.com is offering a way for the little guy to ‘kite’ domain names with their “Catch and Release” program. Apparently with this service you can evaluate domain traffic with the parking service of your choice for a 4.5 day period and at a cost of as little as 10 cents per domain.
The service does require a deposit of $250 to your pool account.
